If someone would ask me, I would tell them I don’t celebrate Christmas. One of my friends told me she was talking with someone who was Jewish and who said they didn’t celebrate Christmas. Sheryl said I have friend Paulette who does. I was kind of surprised since I don’t have a Christmas tree, I don’t have decorations up except for a few draydels, which I have already put away with my menorah.. I don’t get together with my family. In my book I thought I didn’t celebrate since I don’t do the religious stuff. You have to remember in my book religious holidays are about religion.
So what did I do this year? I spent Christmas Eve with friends at a bar eating Chinese food from the restaurant next door. Christmas Day I woke up at 4:30 and went to a church to help cook for 500 people who would be stopping by for a meal. The Temple in my town has a tradition of doing this and I thought I would join them this year. At 10:00 am as I looked out at the church’s social hall and saw it full of Jews not celebrating at a church looking for something to do. I thought it was time for me go and let others help. I went home rested and then drove out George and Suely’s for dinner with her family visiting from Brazil.
So no, I don’t celebrate Christmas. I volunteered because I read something recently how people are remembered for the good deeds they do. While most people at the Church didn’t know my name or who I was, they did take my advice to add the onion water to the stuffing.
This year Hanukkah was very early so I had to do most of my gift shopping very early. I was so ahead of the game that I ended up sending my Holiday Cards this week. Carolyn told me that someone broke into her mailbox and stole some of her holiday cards. On the way out she checked her mailbox and saw there were cards in there and decided to keep them in the mailbox till she got home. When she got home someone took them. They must have thought there might be gifts cards or money in the holiday cards.
I was out shoveling my car out today and talking to my neighbors, one who was surprised that I would send out Christmas Cards. Some people just don’t have a clue.
I didn’t get stuck in the massive traffic jam on Thursday. I was smart enough to work from home that day. The news cries wolf with each snow storm it is hard to know when it is real.

Did you ever have one of these days? I decided to wear a skirt to work today so I went in the drawer and pulled out a pair of tights. When I put them on the waist was a little loose but I didn’t think that much of it.
I got to work and as I was getting out of my car I noticed the tights were navy not black and didn’t go with my outfit. As the morning wore on the tights kept on sliding down. So every time I got up to get a cup of coffee I had to pull up my tights. Now the crotch was a little low and the waist was big.
Well at lunch time I told everyone I had go buy new tights because I just couldn’t walk around in the navy colored tights when it was really the slipping.
So at lunch I ran over to Kohl’s to purchase a pair of black tights. As I was walking around Kohls the tights had gotten really loose, I felt that I actually had to kind of hold them up.. I looked at the sales line and it was long it actually wrapped around the corner. All I wanted to do was get out of those tights. There was only one person standing in line at the jewelry counter so luckily I was able to new pair before the old pair were down around my ankles.
There is an apartment building close to where I live. Its looks like a 1970 modern building, average with sliding glass doors to patios. It could have been apartments in could have been condos.. I never knew it had a name then a about a week ago the building had two large signs in the front yard that announced its new name…Sir Geoffrey Apartments.
Once I saw the name I knew I got a clear picture of the building. Without opening a door I knew it was run down. The name told me if something breaks we aren’t going to fix it. A fancy name on an apartment is just putting lipstick on a pig.
I went up to Lunenburg Vermont, I think that is the town it was very small. There weren't too many stores around. To get to Lunenburg you take 93 North straight up till it ends in Vermont.
Driving through New Hampshire I saw signs for Romney, Ron Paul, Edwards, and Hillary. I actually thought I would see more. I view that as my little independent poll.
We went to dinner at the White Mountain Inn. It is a beautiful old Yankee hotel. I was impressed by the all you can eat buffet, every Thanksgiving favorite you would want. I was a little surprised by the fact that they felt it necessary to have a children’s buffet with hot dogs and chicken fingers. I would think that most children would find something on a traditional Thanksgiving dinner table they would eat. Are we creating a generation of children (or parents) that are so limited in what they will eat that one night a year they can’t even join in on the tradition?
Leilah has been home for a few days and seems to be doing fine. She doesn’t act any differently, still waking me up at 7 to feed her. Still pees a little more that a normal cat. But in the beginning that is okay. Each time she goes to the litter box she gets rid of more of the radio active iodine.
I did some reading and for people who have the same treatment they only need to be careful for a couple of days after treatment, for cats they say two weeks. I am washing my hands every time I touch her and using gloves when I clean her litter box.
I do allow her to sleep with me. I have a towel on the side of the bed which sleeps on. I just sleep on the other side of the bed.
Unless something else comes up I take her back to her regular vet for one more blood test to see what her thyroid levels to see if she is completely cured.
If she is cured…next I get to decide what to do about her bad teeth.
Leilah is at RadioCat have her I131 treatment.
Day 2
First I must say it was very loney last night going home to an empty
home. I could have sworn in the middle of the night I had a cat jump on
my bed, but of course there was no one there. I also over slept this
morning since Leilah also serves as my alarm clock.
I got a call around 12ish from Radio Cat. They told me that Leilah
seems to be doing fine. She ate all her wet food and not much of her
dry. And she was using her litter box.
She does love her wet food so it sounds very much like her true eating
habits.
I just hope their aren't any whiney cats in there with her to bother
her.
Day 1
I thought I would take this opportunity to let everyone know what
happens. This is not my mother I have dropped off at a nursing
home,it's a cat being dropped off for a shot of radio active iodine.
in every half an hour or so to you wouldn't have to wait. I guess that
was my impression and Joan's over touch feely manner.(You might be able
to tell I am more cut crap just tell me the truth type.)
I got there at 2:30 because I thought that was the time I was scheduled
for. As I was waiting and seeing more people come in with Xray's I
realized it wasn't that organized. I was lucky I was the third in.
***If you use Radio Cat do get their early in the time slot or really
late. They do take about 15 minutes with each person. There were 11
cats signed up you do the math and figure out how long a wait can be.
Plus they started about half hour late.
Speaking with the techican I did find out a little more. They give them
a shot after everyone has been signed in. According to her she helps
the doctor. Once the cats have the shots she checks them twice a day
to see if they ate and clean their litter boxes. She will call between
8-5. If they haven't eaten they try putting different food out to get
the cats to eat. I can imagine this amounts to leaving 5 different
plates out and seeing which one they do eat. Maybe after a couple of
days you can suggest something if they aren't eating.
Okay I understand that people can't touch the cats very much because of
their condition. I don't know who would take that job anyway. I was
kind of surprised that no-one checks on them just in case at least the
first night or maybe they could have a camera watching the cats again
just in case. But again if this for my cat not my mother. All the love
they can "safely" give your cat is not that much loving. Which is okay,
just let me know my cat is basically isolated for three day. This is
not my mother it's my cat.
They told me that they leave the tv and radio on for the cats. I hope
they aren't listening to Fox news.
I was told I would get a call at 5:30 after Leilah had her shot. I did
the math and figured the number of cats x 15 minutes giving the shots
it would be closer to 6:30 or 7:00 which it was. You really can't call
them since they don't have a local office. They just rent space at the
Vet's office. I guess someone could give them a local phone with an
answering machine or voice mail? I am in high tech--- I know this
stuff can easily be done ;-).
I hope this helps people who are wondering? I will let you know what
happens on day 2 tomorrow.
How green am I? It seems like green is the new black all of a sudden.
The person I know who is the most green is my cousin Michael in London. His whole building is green and he doesn’t own a car. He goes all around town on his bicycle. I don’t think I could give up my car. However, I do think before I drive. I no longer make regular trips on the weekend to Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s. Since they are on my way home from work, I do my grocery shopping then and save an extra trip. I use google map to find the shortest distance. Which for all I know could be using more gas.
The temperature in my loft is on a timer and set in 60’s in the winter and 79 in the summer. I don’t use my oven that often and my dishwasher about twice a week. My light bulbs are the new type except in the kitchen where they are on a dimmer.
I do try to recycle and try not to us too many plastic bottles, which when I do use them I try to recycle. I try eat local and natural.
I am not perfect; I use the Keurig Coffee Pods which are individual plastic pods of coffee. I don’t unplug my vampire cords. I have an wine refrigerator. It takes me over an hour to dry my clothes since my dryer vent has to go up 4 stories.
I am getting aware and feeling guilty when I do some ungreen.
